Alan Wayne Hicks, age 57, of Bristol, VA, passed away at his residence on July 10, 2009. He was born November 8, 1951, a son of the late Daily Sullivan and Mattie Campbell Sullivan. He retired from Kroger after 30 years of service. He was preceded in death by a son-in-law Troy J. Smith and a grandson Zachary J. Smith.

Wife: Shirley Ann Peters Hicks – Bristol, VA
Son: Troy Alan Hicks and wife Stacy – Blountville, TN
Two Daughters: Shanna Nicola Hicks Smith – Alabaster, AL, Heather Hicks Dutton and husband Matt – Bristol, VA
Brother: Lucky Hicks and wife Suzanne of Kansas City, KS
Sister: Lynn Wilburn and husband Roger of Tazewell, VA
Five Grandchildren: Gabriel Hicks, Josh Wade, Isaiah, Jonah, and Hannah Grace Smith
Several nieces and nephews
Pets: Sinbad and Chesterfield

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, July 14, 2009 from the Weaver Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Mike McCoy officiating. The family will receive friends from 5-8 PM on Monday, July 13, 2009 at Weaver Funeral Home.

Honorary pallbearers will be special friend David “Bob” Smith, Jim Asbury, Bo Broce, Richard Chisom, Jeff Farmer, Mark Gentry, Lonnie Hall, Jackie Hedrick, Barry Norris, Frank Norris, Robert Richmond, Kevin Shifflett, Paul Steele, Marcus Street, David Tayloe and Richard Wolfer.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association. Online condolences may be registered at www.weaverfuneralhome.net.
