This memorial website was created to celebrate the life and preserve our recollections of Norma May Howland.
Norma May Howland, 80, of Minneola, Fla., formerly of Diagonal died April 10, 2008, at her home.
Graveside services will be held June 14, 2008 at 10 a.m. at Diagonal Cemetery. The Rev. Eydie Stephens will officiate.
Norma May Howland, daughter of Josephine Mildred (Kellison) and Worley Clarence Cole, was born Dec. 17, 1927, in Hamburg. She attended many schools across Iowa while her father worked construction helping to build Highway 2. Norma lived with Harold and Mildred Turnbull for a while when she attended school in Diagonal. She missed her parents and family and returned to live with them, graduating from high school in Hastings, Neb., in 1945.
On June 1, 1945, she married Robert Howland in Mankato, Kan. Norma was a Navy wife for more than 20 years and followed Robert to various cities. She and her husband raised three children with Norma doing most of the day-to-day work while Robert was on active Naval duty. She also worked as a nurse's aid, waitress and secretary at several fuel oil offices.
Survivors include her daughter Candace (husband Ernest) Wragg of Minneola, Fla.; sons, Vincent Howland of Brunswick, Ga. and Martin Howland of Jacksonville, Fla.; grandchildren, Robert (wife Brenda) Wragg of Mulberry, Fla., Sandra Cox of Clermont, Fla., Kerri (husband Nick) Carson of Diagonal, Naomi Jones of Starke, Fla., Joey Howland of Lawtey, Fla. and Robert Howland of Brunswick, Ga.; great-granddaughters, Stephanie Wragg of Sante Fe, N.M., Jennifer Wragg of Palm Bay, Fla., Katie Wragg, Ashley Altamirano and Breanna Wragg all of Mulberry, Fla., Tabitha Cox of Clermont, Fla., Harper Spurrier, Jensen Carson, Logann Carson and Maisyn Carson all of Diagonal, Ia., Hayley Ryan and Cameron Jones both of Starke, Fla; great-grandsons, Robert Wragg Jr. of Palm Bay, Fla., Juan-Pablo Altamirano and Kevin Wragg both of Mulberry, Fla., David Cox, Nathan Cox, Jacob Cox, Caleb Cox and Micah Cox all of Clermont, Fla., Dakota Spurrier and Morgan Spurrier both of Diagonal, Ia., Tristan Jones of Starke, Fla.; sisters, Mildred Beymer and Karen Snedeker both of Diagonal, Jacky Davenport of Winterset and Nadine Schinagel of Dallas, Texas; sisters-in-law, Joanne Dokmonovich of Zephyrhills, Fla., Clara (husband Frank) Brisbane of Omaha, Neb. and Peggy Cole of Orange, Calif.; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles and friends.
Norma was preceded in death by her parents; husband in 1997; infant son Robert Worley in 1948; three brothers and one sister.
